| Her father was a merchant and insisted that, upon completion of school, his daughter be trained in business and commerce, and indeed Margot Guilleaume initially did work as a trader; but even then her love for music had awakened. She regularly attended the performances of the Hamburg State Opera House and began entertaining the idea of a singing career.
